Jim DeLaney - Obituary


James Lamar DeLaney, age 91, of The Villages, Florida passed away on Saturday, December 14, 2024. He was born in Hampton, AR and was raised in Lancaster, Pa. 

As a patriot and love of his country he served in the US Army from 1950 to 1952. Shortly after his discharge he joined the US Army Reserves and retired as Colonel in 1983.

Jim started his career in the Transportation industry as a young man and retired as owner of his own Transportation Company in Manville, New Jersey. In 1981 he was elected President of the New Jersey Motor Truck Association.

After retiring he organized the 119th Motorcycle Club in Hunterdon County, NJ.. Jim’s passion was riding and traveling the US on his Harley Davidson motorcycle. That’s when he found The Villages, FL and warm weather. 

Jim served his community as a member of The Knights of Columbus, Knights on Bikes, St. Vincent De Paul Church, the American Legion, the Legion Riders and Gators.

He lived life with a positive outlook and a smile to everyone he met.

Jim is survived by his children Carol, Timothy (Patricia), Denise (Robert), his grandchildren Tiffany & James III, and great grandchildren Jane & James. He is preceded in death by his son James, Jr..

A funeral mass will take place at 1:00 PM on Thursday February 6th at St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church. Interment will follow Friday, February 7th at Florida National Cemetery.
